I was born in a small, seaside town in Essex, England. After I’d finished my full-time education, I joined The Royal Marines and became a Lieutenant. My first overseas posting took me to Borneo where I led a troop of marines in a military operation. I was shot and airlifted from the jungle to a nearby hospital. During my time in the armed forces, I learnt many things: not least leadership, dealing with stress, and the dedication and determination required to achieve a goal. My most satisfying moments were leading and working with my team to achieve our given mission.
When, after five years, I left the marines and went into business, my military training and experiences helped me achieve several notable accomplishments in the commercial world.
Over the years, I’ve experienced a few death-defying moments, business success and failure, near bankruptcy, a couple of sporting achievements, and some personal tragedy. I thrive on adversity–thinking, where one door closes another opens.
I’m sanguine about life, and don’t see my past as special–just stuff I’ve been through. I work hard to use my life experiences and understanding of people to make my books realistic, compelling, and as good as I can create. Most of all I want to entertain the reader.
